12 YEARS LATER

Tumba is Found

In Spring of 2008, a litter of kittens were born under the porch of a local business to one of the many stray cats in our area. After a kind neighbor trapped the new family, we adopted one of the kittens and named her Tumba.

She grew into a friendly, sweet kitty with gorgeous green marble eyes and lived a cushy indoor life with her adoring humans. She was microchipped during her vaccinations and spayed soon after. When she was less than a year old, Tumba slipped out one night and we wouldn’t see her again for 12 years.

As it turns out, she was taken in by another kind woman who loved her, but never thought to check for a microchip. When this woman passed away, her family decided to surrender Tumba to the local humane society and upon intake, the microchip was discovered.

We had searched for Tumba and missed her dearly, but always held out that she was alive and being spoiled by another family. It was such a relief to know she was alive and well… and now, thanks to a microchip implanted over a decade earlier, she was back home.

THE MICROCHIP INITIATIVE

The Microchip Initiative is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to animal advocacy and permanent pet identification for all companion animals. Memberships, grant funding, and donations allow us to partner with local veterinarians to offer free and/or low-cost community wide microchipping for all companion animals. As animal lovers who’ve personally lost and been reunited with pets in the past thanks to microchipping, we feel passionately about the issue.
